The peer-reviewed paper in Cancers described development and retrospective evaluation of a four-microRNA model using case-control datasets. The authors reported sensitivity ranging from approximately 70% to 100% by evaluated cancer type and approximately 99% specificity in an independent dataset of 7,120 participants.
These findings were proof-of-concept research results. They do not establish prospective screening performance, clinical utility, earlier diagnosis, improved survival, cost savings or suitability for any individual. Results can differ by population, prevalence, cancer stage, specimen handling, assay version and decision threshold.
